Ambitious Hustle "KB Makabaza"

When Did You Start Doing Music
We pride ourselves in our professionalism, quality, long term relationships, solutions, exceptional service and values. KB Makabaza is a hip hop artist born and bred in Saulsville/Attridgeville, a small township in the mid-west of Pretoria. He is a rapper, song writer/composer above all an artist on his own and by far he has been exceptional.
Growing up as a poet, KB Makabaza constructed his writing skill through Poetry and Cyphers after being introduced to the Hip-Hop game during the year 2010 by Lindile Ndlala better known as Blade Chicano an artist/Producer from the coast of Cape Town who is part of a Saulsville recording stable called C-Max. Currently KB Makabaza is under the wing of Tumelo Mokoka (Lets Rock U Entertainment) as his manager, who identified his talents during a music festival in 2012
What Led You Too Start This
At the age of 16 KB Makabaza started as a local Dj around his township and at times go to gigs requesting a slot or sit in with well known Dj’s from his township and around. Along the years it seemed as turntables were not the only thing KB Makabaza fell in love with, with his poetical and writing skill he looked forward to bringing words to life by putting his experience on paper. (Music-Composition). KB Makabaza started recording under C-Max Records, led by Gregory Ledwaba better known as “Sir Greg” who helped KB Makabaza become superior from just being a rapper with lyrics to musician with an influential sound. Greatly inspired by his surroundings which ranges from current affairs in his hometown, life experiences and a whole lot of stories people tell on a daily basis. KB Makabaza carries his expertise into a powerful musical fuse of amazement due to the energy he brings during his performance.
You Are Blessed With Reaching People Through What You Put On Pen & Paper, Organizations Are Even Recognizing Your Efforts,,, Tell Me More About That?
its actually a good thing and like you said, its all blessings. You find that at some point people don't wanna dance but listen and learn. Most of the organizations that I've worked wit or working with to date are NGO's and NPO's and that mainly deals with those less privileged. Currently working with an organization called XAVERI which is in partnership with the UNCHR as a World Refugee Ambassador. To most organizations I work with its more or less me being a Lecturer and advising the youth through music. What Are The Lows You've Come Across In This Industry?
As an artist who emerged from a "Kasi" that's known for its bad ways I found it hard doing music where else no one takes you serious. Its either you sell or smoke "Nyaope" or end up as a taxi Driver. It makes you feel so away from people because you doing music from the heart. I've been rejected by Companies saying I should change how I rap. As an artist nothing is as bad as being told you not Good enough. Till someone takes you under their wing and show how good you are. That's as low as it gets.
What Are The Highs Of The Industry?
Being able to reach out to people who don't know you. Having to appreciate the struggles of others and not looking down on them. Got so many opportunities like doing Tours with Kwaito legends. As artists we face different types of Highs and Lows. I took a different type of HIGH. Lol. But so far it hasn't been an easy path.
What If A Record Company Wants To Sign You?
I really find it hard to sign to a company. Thing is that a contract can change how you sound, record companies even change how you write. Remember, them coming to you was for a reason. At times the reason might be to destroy you. Take for example you're a rapper who sounds like one of the top S.A hip hop artists difference being you more good. Chances the recording company that artist is under, might sign you not to build you but to delay you. To kill you before you taking the other one's shine. To me its loyalty above paper. So let's work and see progress before I sign. On That Note About Being Signed, Is There Any Deals You Got By Far? Any Promising Signing?
Yes I have been offered deals but I always say NO. Its not because I don't want too. I just don't believe in doing what someone else wants. I don't wanna make deals with the devil but hey at some point you do it unaware. I can't say anything yet but things are looking promising.
Is It About The Passion, Money Or Fame
LOL. To me its honestly about the passion I have for music. Yes I do want the money, yes it brings fame as well but what you do it for its more important. "The Fame,The Fortune,The need to feel importance of existence as long as the world is in Orbit". Fame and Money will follow after.
I Know That You're A Talented Young Being,, Besides Music, What Else Are You Up Too?
I'm actually looking at acting as well. Getting into advertising too. Most of all I'm planning on starting few community projects that's gonna also create opportunities for the youth. The main focus is to keep the kids out the streets. Keep them busy with something that will draw them away from negative surroundings. My wish is to see my community doing something sustainable. I'm also working as an Project Manager for an NGO called "Aga Sechaba" that helps people get 2nd chances in life.
Please Describe Your Sound?
I'd say my sound is more Phelistic Motswako. Lol I call it that because its different. It differs from other sounds 1stly with how I deliver. I'm from Phelindaba also known as "Atteridgeville" and you know we even speak different. Lol others would say we speak weird. Yes, if you can remember "JR",that's the same sound but done differently.
Your Sound Is Fresh And Relates To An Average Joe From Kasi Aka The "Township". Tell Me Who Produces Your Stuff?
I've worked with different producers from and outside the Hood. Mostly I'm on C-MAX production or on a Parkanouva Production,Parkanouva has been working wit known artists so at some point I get challenged by his sound because its that New age sound. I prefer getting different feels.
What Is The Targeted Market You Looking At?
Taught one. With the kind of msg I spread I'm looking at having everyone as my target. From kids to adults. Recently I've been approached by people I didn't think they listen to my music because of the age gap. So that also shows that I don't do it for kids. I make music for everyone. I don't have a specific target Market. I'm for everything but not disappointing.
What Is Your Mission You Want To Accomplish Via Your Music?
I wanna see my music change the world. I'd love to see more artists being real to themselves. I wanna make people ask believe in themselves more. I wanna build someone and not break them. I want kids to express themselves by writing more. I wanna see the violence come to an end and we write scriptures of peace for we won't know what tomorrow holds. So the mission is to better the life of a growing child.
Any Collabs You Have Done?
KB Makabaza is currently working on his album called 1st Chapter (The Genesis) produced by Chicano, Sir Greg, Parkanouva, HOD & DJ Spelete (Both from Bonsai Entertainment), and he is currently under the mentorship of the legendary Kwaito musician Bonginkosi“Zola”Dlamini of Zola7 Media…Zola saw KB Makabaza perform and immediately liked his work/craft. His 1st single "Ka Nkane“ created a buzz topping charts for numerous weeks giving him credibility in the local and other parts of South Africa followed by another easy but thumping single (Live and Let Live) feat. Bonezitto and ended up getting chosen for #JagermeisterBackTheArtist2014 competition and #JackDanielsTalentScout
I've done collabs with Zola7,Mxolisi Majozi better known as ZuluBoy,I've worked with Vambos who worked with Ghetto Ruff but currently works with 999. I've been featured on a track that's soon to be released by an Amsterdam DJ,DJ Pascal. My latest hit single titled Ayashis'Amateki where I feature the talented Orapeleng Kola known as Oracle V.P. I also got an opportunity to collab with F-eezy,Pardon and SK.
Where Do You See Your Music In The Next Coming 5 Years
In the next coming 5 years I see my music being used as sound tracks to few of the biggest television and Film productions. I see my music getting me Tours all over africa and Abroad. I see my music being used as the new study to medicine.
